Passion - Entry 6

"Nothing is as important as passion. No matter what you want to do with your life, be passionate." - Lydia Sweatt

Personally I think finding your passion in life is something  that is really important to human existence. Everyone has their own passion. Mine happens to be photography. Being passionate  about your work situation can be really beneficial. If you are happy with what you're doing every single day then you'll be more willing to put in the extra effort and extra time. You'll also find it harder to quit in the long run.if everyone did what they were passionate about, not only would the human race be happier and a better quality of work would get completed.

Going to school for photography has taught me one thing for sure : do what I love to do does not feel like work. Yes it can be hard but overall it's fun and always something new. So think about it, really dig deep. What is your passion? Are you actually doing what you want to be doing for the rest of your life? Because if you are not, make the change. Be  in charge of your life, and be passionate about everything that you do.

Fresh, entry 5

I recently watched film, Fresh, which is an independent documentary about farmers and how they treat their animals in the United states. Before watching this film, I had never considered how our food was made. Of course I know that hamburgers comes from cows and bacon comes from pigs, but I never thought about how each animal was treated, or even how uses of pesticides affected the Earth.

Throughout Fresh, they show two types of farmers: sustainable or conventional. The sustainable farmers follow natures natural patterns. Cows eat grass, fertilize the ground, and chickens are not stuck in chicken coops. Picture your stereotypical farm in your head and that is what a sustainable farmer does.

The conventional farmers are focused on the quantity. They could care less about the quality of the food they are putting out for the public to eat.  They will cover the crops in pesticide and fill the animals with antibiotics, just to keep their numbers high and are meeting the standards of the contract the farmer is usually under. In the end, they still lose though, because their crops are still destroyed by insects that adapt to the pesticides.  Overall, conventional farmers are just in the farming business for money.

Honestly this film was eye-opening to see how the animals are being treated and how I am putting unnecessary chemicals in my body while I am eating vegetables trying to be healthy. There is a problem with conventional farming, and I think the best was to fix it would be for more companies to have higher standers like Chipotle does when they pick out their foods to serve and for more companies to post of they use food grown with GMO's.

Chill, Netflix entry 4

Netflix, one of the largest streaming sites in America, has recently decided to raise their prices from $7.99 to $8.99 then to $9.99. (moving to $10.99 for viewing on two screens and having HD).  Personally, as a college student, these price raises can be really inconvenient. Like most college students, I can't afford cable. Netflix is a great solution. Granted, $7.99 paid monthly can still be expensive, adding up to $95.88. But once the prices raise the streaming service will cost $107.88 a year (when you pay $8.99 per  month) then $119.88 (when you pay $9.99 per month). (If you have the duel screens it will move to $131.88 a year).  If Netflix, offered some type of discount for students like Hulu does (which is only $5.00 a month for students) then they defiantly would be able to keep more of their regular users
Along with price increases, Netflix announced that Disney will be pulling their movies and shows. As a major Disney fanatic, this is rather upsetting. I wouldn't be surprised if many users extremely upset. Overall It would be smart for Netflix to offer a student discount like other streaming services and music services as well.

Like, Favorite, Retweet entry 3

How many social media accounts do you have?
How many different personalities do you have because of them?
Personally, I have SEVEN different social media accounts. I  sound ridiculous, even to myself.

Although, I know that I am not the only one.

In society today social Media consumes practically  everyone, and every part of their lives. Walking through an outlet mall the chance of not seeing an advertisement where at the bottom it says  "LIKE US ON FACEBOOK" is slim to none anymore.
Listening to The Podcast, Status Update, The listener is introduced to three girls. The three of them were so concerned with how many likes each one got, and how quickly each like came in. At some point they comment on how one of the girls received six like in one minuet. Its sad that they even feel like they feel they even need to keep track like that.  This is something I personally do myself, I notice how many likes each picture gets, who comments, and even keep track of the "prime time" to post something. I wouldn't say I feed off the" likes"  but I do notice when a post gets significantly less that the previous post before it, especially if I really like what I said or captured.  During Act One: Finding the Self in Selfie, I really related to the girls. They  talk about how it ca be scary to even post a photo, and how they get approval from friends before posting it. Hearing that other girls do that too made me think; "Why do we feel the need to get approval"?  Looking at my own life, and Social media accounts, I realized that I have stopped posting selfies. I'm always with other people. While its not necessarily a bad thing, because I prefer to show me having a good time with friends and family, but I think that it is also because I get scared that I will be faced with negative comments on just a selfie.

Time Management + Photography + College student = STRESS - Entry 2

"When I have my camera in hand,

I know no fear"  - Alfred Eisenstatedt

A common misconception people have is that fine art majors have the "college life" way easier than say a mathematics major. I had the same idea drilled into my head when I stepped on to college campus a mere month ago. Oh how I was mistaken. Being the naïve college freshmen that I am, I decided to take on being a full time student, plus working. Here's the first two days of my school week at a glance:
Monday:
Digital photography 9:00am-11:50am
Graphic Design  12:00pm-12:50pm

Tuesday:
Photography 101 8:30am-11:20am
English 101 11:30am-12:45pm
Math 142 1:00pm-2:15pm

Seems easy enough, but there was something I did not plan for... Time. Photography requires a large amount of time, money, energy, and commitment. I grew up taking pictures, if I could ,I would avoid being in photos by offering to take them. Up until this year, I was a self taught. By taking these classes are necessary to teach the technical and time management aspect of photography.

Many people thing that photography is just pointing your camera at a person, flower, or sunset and snapping the frame. That is so far from the truth. Time management is a huge piece in photography. You can't over-book yourself with clients, have to plan for the time of day to get the most effective lighting for what you're trying to portray.  Not only do you have to time manage for the actual shoot but, after is all the editing and choosing which photos are the absolute best for what the client wanted.

When I picked my classes for this semester, I foolishly did not think about all the time that was going to be needed. For example, just this weekend I spent almost four hours at a photo-shoot, and haven't even started the editing process yet. That was just for my Digital photography class.

From photo-shoot 09/16/17
I don't mean to sound as if I'm complaining, because I'm really not. I love what I have decided to do with my life. But like all things, there is a learning curve, and time management was one of those for me. I jut think that photographers, world-wide, do not get enough credit for what we are trying to show case to the world.

Blogs, Blogs, Blogs - Entry 1

"Blogs give the small person a voice"

- Dave Miller

Blogs are something that can be used on a daily basis, the effectiveness of the blog really depends on structure and content (appropriate to the audience). Personally, I enjoy artists blogs, or even better, video blogs. Overall, I think I am warming up to the idea of a typical blog, but  I am still some-what stand-offish because anyone can read what you write, and that terrifies me.

Post Secrets, was one of the first blogs that I read, and in all honesty, I picked it because the name was different. This blog doesn't have many words, just pictures of postcards where people confess their secrets anonymously.

Scrolling through all these confessions I found myself fascinated by strangers secrets. The words on the cards are virtually the only words on the page and it fits perfectly for the overall tone and feel of this blog.  Truthfully, this blog was by far my favorite because it was just super interesting and was different than all of the rest. I think being different is the best way to catch someone's attention, especially when they are surfing the internet and just run across something random.

Another blog I found, is called AMERICA blog  It is a political blog that  shares the news going on in our country. This blog is a much more professional, because its dealing with big issues and with very real problems. This blog honestly felt like I was reading the news which I really did not enjoy, mostly because I feel like the news is  extremely negative, or it is just all politics. knowing that about myself when I looked at this blog most likely affected my openness towards it, but at the same time it was interesting to see someone's point of view on things other than the mainstream news media on a daily basis.

Hey, I did it - Practice entry

My Family from left to right, Travis (brother), Cory (father) and Sara (mom)
Hello and  welcome to my blog! I suppose that I should introduce myself to you. My name is Candaci, but every one calls me Cj. Who am I? Honestly, does anyone, especially at the age of  19, know who they are? When I look in the mirror I see so many different sides of myself. Some days I see a girl who is very shy and doesn't want  to be around anyone. While other days,  I see an outgoing girl wants who to be around everyone in my life. Usually I'm the latter. When I am not working, I enjoy spending time with my family (seen in the picture), we enjoy going camping and going to the beach. I consider myself to be a very family oriented person. Outside of my family some of  my interests include, photography, reading, and music. I enjoy taking pictures because it allows me to show others how I see the world and lets me express myself in a visual manner.  I run a Photography account to help get my photos out in the world. Reading is something that helps me relax on stressful days (especially when laying in a hammock.... I highly recommend it) although I don't read as much as I'd like to anymore, it is still something I really enjoy.

Music is a huge part of my life. I enjoy music from many different genres Music has not only helped me in rough times, but has also allowed me to express how I'm feeling without actually having to speak.  I was recently able to go see one of my favorite bands, This Wild Life , in concert. This was by far the best night of my life (to date anyway).
The goals I have set for my life, in my opinion, are pretty simple. I want to  be happy with the life I create with my future family. I would really like to be able to travel the world. I believe that setting a "Vision Board" to help keep you on track in life can be a very useful tool. I personally have one for where I would like to be in 10 years.

Hopefully this gives you a little insight in who I am, but I'll let you make the judgment for yourself :)

Keep Smiling,
CJ
